Police say three people have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man outside an Arlington apartment complex in October.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Arlington police say they have arrested three people in connection with the shooting death of a 27-year-old man at an apartment complex in October.
On October 13, officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Wilcrest Drive, where they found a man, later identified as Jarrell Thornton, 27, shot inside a car. Police said at the time that they had found the.
As a result of the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Armontay Valencia, 21, Kentay Martin, 20, and Jayden Davidson, 21, each on suspicion of murder, police said.
Police said Valencia was arrested in Mesquite on Oct. 25, Martin was arrested in Dallas on Oct. 29 and Davidson was arrested in Arlington on Nov. 11 after a traffic stop.
Detectives believe the three went to the apartment complex on Oct. 13 to buy drugs from Thornton, officials said.
After the transaction, Martin pulled out a gun and fired at Thornton, striking him multiple times as he fled in his car, police said.
Thornton was shot in the parking lot before his car came to a stop and struck several parked cars, according to a police news release.
Thornton was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
Police said they were able to identify the suspect after a witness to an unrelated incident told investigators he was with Martin the night of the shooting and heard Martin say he was going to kill someone.
Police said a second witness detectives spoke with corroborated that information and placed Valencia, Martin and a third person at the crime scene. Detectives identified the third person as Davidson, police said.
A ballistics and digital forensic investigation of this incident is ongoing.
Mr. Davidson was being held at the Arlington City Jail, and Mr. Valencia and Mr. Martin were then transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
