Megan Thee Stallion is taking MEGAN to a new level with lots of shock and then ACT II with full throttle and no brakes. While the cover art may not be enough to convey it, it does hint at the sonic direction of these 13 songs. A flashy, diamond-encrusted font and extravagant grille indicate this is a true Southern hip-hop slapper. On cue, the Houston rapper is about to step into a time machine with undulating synths set to a familiar drum pattern. This is the closest she leans to her H-Town roots in her music, and most of Love Letters does justice to that era.
One prime example is “Bigger In Texas,” the leadoff cut for the extended version of her self-titled record. The new visual shows off her love for the Lone Star State with, among other things, an over-the-top lowrider, Johnny Dunn’s famous jewelry store, and plenty of cameos from the artists who paved the way. Slim Thug, Paul Wall, and Sauce Walker are just a few who show their love for the H-Town Hottie. As for the track itself, Meg incorporates all of her patented flows, improvisations, bars, and more, and it’s a pretty impressive rendition, no matter how much you’ve heard this formula before. There are some hilarious flashes of her humor, too, with lines like, “My pockets are getting thicker, I’m tasting money, I feel like I’ve eaten hundreds / I just got on the G6, I’m playing Switch. It’s driving me crazy, hmm.”
