STARKVILLE, Mich. — Graduate Guard Tromonmark registered a Game High 24 points while Freshman Guard Tre Johnson added 23 points to lead Texas (17-13, 6-11 seconds) to an 87-82 overtime victory at Hamfreakkorashum on Tuesday night. The Longhorns have won their fourth victory over AP ranked opponents this season.
Mark missed a previous game against Georgia on Saturday with a back injury, and changed a 9th field goal, including getting out of the bench and hitting six-quarters from 3-point range, as well as hitting four rebounds and a 2-for-2 free throw in 29 minutes. Johnson hit an eighth field goal, including 9-for-6 from the 3-point range, with four assists, three rebounds and one steal in one career 43 minutes. Senior Arthur Karma recorded his eighth double double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in 35 minutes, while Kadin Shedrick added 10 points (3-6 fg, 1-1 three), four boards and two blocks in 22 minutes.
After Johnson’s layup gave the Longhorns an early 4-3 advantage at the 17:29 mark, Mississippi used a 9-0 squirt over the next four minutes to grab a 12-4 cushion following the remaining Keshawn Murphy layup at 13:20. Texas answered on a 14-3 run in the next four minutes, taking a 18-15 lead after a mark three pointer at the 9:22 mark.
The Jordan Pope Jumper gave the Longhorns a 22-21 advantage with 6:54 left, but the Bulldogs used a 9-3 sprint in the next two minutes to grab a 30-24 cushion after a 4:38 mark RJ Melendez 3-pointer. Mississippi established a 32-26 lead after Cameron Matthews dunked with 3:50 left. Texas then closed the half with an 11-0 run to defeat the 37-32 advantage.
The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit 40-36, following Matthews’ layup at the 17:57 mark. The Longhorns then used an 11-4 spurt over the next three minutes to build a 51-40 cushion after the remaining Pope layup at 14:53. Texas extended the margin to 54-42 following Shedrick’s three-pointer at the 13:24 mark, but Mississippi scored eight straight points, with Murphy’s layup reducing the gap to 54-50 with 10:38 left.
The Longhorns took a 58-51 lead after a Shedric free throw at the 9:46 mark. A pair of Josh Hubbard’s free throws pulled the Bulldogs within 62-59 remained at 5:51, with the Texas earning six straight points to a 68-59 advantage after a mark three pointer at the 4:44 mark. Shedrick’s free throw gave a 69-60 cushion with 3:52 left before Mississippi scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to 69-67 after Mississippi made a Murphy layup at the 1:15 mark. Texas increased their lead to 71-67 following Mark Jumper with 16 seconds left, but Hubbard hit two free throws with 13 seconds left, and Rileekgel converted the layup after a steal with nine seconds left, forcing them to work overtime.
Texas took an 82-77 lead after Shedrick Follow Dunk at the 1:07 mark. The Bulldogs scored five straight points and tied the score 82-82 after a three-point play from Kugel with 32 seconds left. The Longhorns did not allow the remaining points and sealed the victory with one free throw from Shedrick, a pair of free throws by Mark and two free throws from Karma.
Texas will return to the court on Saturday, March 8th when they host Oklahoma. The hint will be set at 7pm CT at Moody Center, and the game will be aired nationwide by the SEC network.

Tonight’s contest marked the first matchup between Texas and Mississippi since the 2012-13 season. It marked its first trip to Starkville in UT since December 11, 1976. The Longhorns have won their fourth AP ranked opponent this season (25th place Mississippi State). Texas previously claimed they had won Missouri (January 21), Texas A&M No. 13 (Jan. 25) and Kentucky No. 15 (Feb. 15). Texas improved to 6-3 in the best series ever against Mississippi. The Longhorns won the final five meetings of the series. UT improved 17-10 under manager Rodney Terry in games determined by less than five points or overtime. Texas currently registers 15 wins against AP Top 25 opponents under coach Rodney Terry. The contest included six ties and seven lead changes. The Longhorns improved 1-1 this season in the overtime contest. UT’s last two SEC road games each worked overtime (Arkansas on February 22nd). Texas converted 11/23 (.478) from the 3-point range at night, limiting the Bulldog to 6/25 (.240) over the arc. The Longhorns recorded a 14-4 advantage in second chance points and a 35-25 margin on bench scoring.
