TULSA, Okla. – The Texas men’s tennis team had two players win their first-round qualifying matches at the ITA National Championships in Tulsa on Monday, including sophomore Lucas Brown in singles and the doubles pairing of Brown and junior Sebastian Golzny.
Brown has already won three singles matches in the preliminary round, keeping his momentum going with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Auburn’s Nicholas Henn. He’ll next face the No. 16 seed and No. 71 seed Aidan Kim of Ohio State at 9 a.m. CST on Tuesday.
Then, the No. 31-ranked pair of Brown and junior Sebastian Golzney beat Tulsa’s Luis Felipe Miguel and Adam Vojkovic 6-1, 6-3. They will next face Auburn’s Billy Blades and William Nolan at 3 p.m. CST.
Meanwhile, the 68th-ranked pair of senior Pierre-Yves Bailly and junior Jonah Braswell lost 6-3, 6-4 to Wake Forest University’s Dakshineswar Suresh and Andrew Delgado. But they advanced to the semifinals and will face Vanderbilt University’s 43rd-ranked Danil Panarin and Nathan Cox at 4 p.m. CST.
