The designation is intended to “promote music business-related economic development and job creation in Texas cities and communities.”
MEXICO, Texas — Mexico, Texas has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO), joining a group of notable Texas towns to receive the special honor.
The city of Mexia completed a multi-step certification process to receive the designation, becoming the 71st city in Texas to earn that title, according to the release.
The Music Friendly Texas Program was established in 2016 and aims to “promote music business-related economic development and job creation in Texas cities and communities,” according to TMO.
Local and state leaders expressed excitement and congratulations on the new designation.
“Congratulations to Mexico City on achieving the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “Music is key to the Texas brand and deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music-friendly Texas communities support the local music industry to foster local job creation and economic growth. A certification ceremony marking this designation will be co-sponsored by TMO and the Mexia Economic Development Corporation and will be held in downtown Mexia on Thursday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m.
