The Texas A&M Aggies baseball team won a much-needed victory in Houston on Sunday night, beating their hometown Rice Owl in a 14-4 run rule victory at the Astros Foundation College Classic.
No. 1 Texas A&M headed to the contest with a four-game winning streak. This included loss of upset at home in Cal Poly (February 23) and Texas (February 25) before Arizona and Oklahoma began the College Classic.
First-year head coach Michael Ely had little sailing, but he has maintained a steady head as the team continues to understand himself.
Speaking to the media following Sunday’s victory at Rice, Early admitted he was pleased that the Aggies were 3-0 behind the bottom of the two innings. From there, Kaden Kent hit a two-run homer at the top of the third, but A&M never looked back.
“You know, looking back at that moment, I didn’t love it, but I’m glad we got off,” Earley said. “I’m glad we got off. It’s been a bit of a test. It’s going to take some time to get that feeling back.”
Earley gave great praise to Kent, who finished in three RBIs, highlighting the pair with just two hits and home runs.
“In my opinion, the skill set is clearly from the bat to the ball, and he’s gotten so much better over the last few years, but he brings a tenacity and mentality that you can’t teach.
Aggies will host UTSA Road Runner on Tuesday.
“We consider this a victory. If we put the past behind us, we keep rolling.”
