Midland, Texas (KOSA) –
Midland College hosted a college roadshow for the West Texas Food Bank with free resources and lunches.
In celebration of End Hunger Month, the West Texas Food Bank and Midland College are teaming up to provide a variety of free services to the community for the second year in a row.
Midland College administrators understand that students face many challenges, and events like this one are designed to help students both in and out of the classroom.
It was informative and practical, and local agencies, including Mental Health Services and the West Texas Food Bank, were on hand to explain what can be done to help students with food, housing, and more.
“We partner with area colleges to serve the community and our students,” said Nicole Cooper, dean of student life at Midland College. “There will be free produce, free lunches, and it’s not just for Midland College students and staff, it’s for local residents too. We encourage local residents to get involved.”
With the recent surge in enrollment, Midland College students and faculty believe today’s event will continue to drive enrollment growth for years to come.
“I think it shows how much Midland College is there for the community, for the students and for the staff and how much they support everyone,” said Rebecca Robertson, a Midland College student.
Midland University recently opened a food pantry on campus to help those in need after administrators heard food insecurity was becoming a major issue.
“It’s a necessity, so it really helps me save money in that area. I already have enough groceries for this week,” Robertson said.
Midland College will continue to assist students who need support and resources.
