The wait is almost over. The NFL Draft Week is finally here. As the three-day event kicks off in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Thursday, Texas A&M Edge Rush Shemmer Stewart will walk across Shake to shake hands with Comider Roger Goodell at some point in the evening.
The former five-star, a high school graduate in Opalolca, Florida, has been a consensus first round forecast since declaring his draft. That’s despite much debate over his production, or rather his lack.
However, like in the mock draft, the lack of production has not played a factor in his assessments from media talent evaluators. This includes Melkiper, a longtime draft analyst at ESPN. Melkiper ranked Stewart as the 27th best prospect in the final big board ranking ahead of Thursday’s draft.
The rankings place him behind the edge rushes of other peers like Abdul Carter, Jaron Walker, Mike Greene, Donovan Ezellak and Michael Williams. However, Stewart is classified in a positional manner that differs from the names ranked above him overall.
Kipper has Stewart as the number one defensive side. This puts him on other prominent names, including Ashton Guillott of Louisville, JT Twimorrow of Ohio, and even his Texas A&M teammate, Knick Schoolton.
According to Kiper, Scourton, the former Purdue Transfer, ranks 58th overall. Meanwhile, he is ranked fourth defensive side.
Since his performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, Stewart has seen his stock rise as high as the top 10 in the mock draft. That’s despite the fact that he ended his three-year career with just 4.5 bags at Texas A&M.
However, a mock draft involving Kuiper shows that the NFL team is watching past it after a 40-second 40-yard dash time while performing a 40-inch vertical jump in Indianapolis.
Shemale Turner and Jadae Walker are the only other Aggies players in the rankings. The defensive tackle is ranked 75th in Kipper overall, with Walker 84th in the list.
