A source close to the company told Fortune.com that X employees were notified of the impending closure via email. The company’s offices on Market Street in San Francisco have been closed. Friday, September 13th.
The change by the social media company marks another major milestone in Elon Musk’s relocation of his business from California to Texas.
As previously reported by the Dallas Express, Musk recently posted a series of business updates and explanations for recent changes to SpaceX, noting that he is relocating both SpaceX and Cosmos to Texas due to various issues with the state of California.
“I’m tired of having to avoid groups of violent drug addicts to get in and out of my building,” Musk said. I posted this to X earlier this year.
The announcement comes after California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a controversial bill that bars schools from informing parents if their child is transgender.
“This is the end of the road. Because of this law and many previous laws that attack both families and businesses, SpaceX will be relocating our headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas,” Musk added.

Earlier this year, Tesla shareholders formally approved moving the company’s headquarters to Texas, and an X poll showed strong support for the move, with 87.1% of respondents in favor.
