As more than 75,000 students at Texas A&M University, the nation’s largest university, prepare for the start of the fall semester, the addition of Rabbi Menachem and Moussi Lazarov to the team at Texas A&M University’s Lohr Chabad Jewish Center marks a major reinvigoration of Jewish life at the university.
The Lazarovs join Rabbi Yossi and Rabbi Manya Lazarov, who have served the university’s Jewish students for 18 years. Rabbi Menachem and Rabbi Moussi Lazarov’s appointment opens new avenues of connection to College Station. They will focus on engaging with faculty and their families in College Station, Texas, where the university is located, and will spearhead new Torah study initiatives for students, offering courses and individualized study for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and alumni alike.
Rabbi Menachem grew up in College Station and is well aware of the unique challenges of Jewish life more than 90 miles from the nearest large Jewish community, while Moorthy (née Feller) grew up in Shlicas in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
The Lazaroffs’ appointment comes at a time of rapid expansion for the Lohr Chabad Jewish Center at Texas A&M University. The center continues to grow and is nearing completion of construction of a state-of-the-art mikvah facility. In the wake of the October 7 attacks and the rise of anti-Semitism around the world, Jewish students feel welcomed, supported and proud at Chabad at Texas A&M University.
The atmosphere of Jewish pride fostered by Chabad and permeating the campus has attracted more Jewish students to the school, and the Lazaroffs look forward to interacting with many of them this fall.
