Potential Tropical Depression No. 6 will likely strengthen into Tropical Storm Francine late Sunday night into Monday morning.
AUSTIN, Texas — Fall-like temperatures are expected Monday morning with highs near 90 degrees by the afternoon, but tropical areas just north of the Bay of Campeche are also being monitored.
This is potential Tropical Depression No. 6, which will likely strengthen into Tropical Storm Francine late Sunday night into Monday morning. The storm is then expected to slowly move north up the Mexican coast and eventually reach the Texas coast over the next few days, possibly becoming a hurricane as it nears landfall by Wednesday afternoon.
It is important to note that although the cone is relatively wide, impacts can still occur outside the cone.
It’s unclear how the system will impact the KVUE area.
By Monday, parts of the Texas coast may see some impacts through the widest outer band of this system, and if you’re heading to the Texas coast, we recommend you be prepared for any impacts that may occur Monday afternoon into the evening.
But heading into Wednesday, we are tracking it to make landfall along the Texas or Louisiana coast depending on how the model trends change. Tuesday and Wednesday will see mostly scattered showers and storms along much of the Texas coast, but the heaviest rain will likely fall Wednesday afternoon and evening, with the biggest impacts felt in places like Beaumont and Lake Charles.
This particular model is predicting a chance of scattered rain across Central Texas on Wednesday, but most other models don’t expect Austin to have the same luck.
Stay tuned to the KVUE Weather Impacts Team for updates on this developing system.
