Four families in the Hidalgo County area added a new addition to their family in the new year with the birth of their first baby of the year at a local hospital.
Aubriel Adeline Muniz’s baby was born just five minutes into the new year Wednesday at the South Texas Health System McAllen Maternity Center.
“We knew she would be coming on New Year’s Day,” Aubriel’s mother, Daniella Abigail Lopez, said in a news release. “My due date was January 7th, but I kept thinking, ‘No, this girl will be here sooner than that,’ and sure enough, here she is.”
After enduring more than 24 hours of labor, the Muniz family welcomed a baby girl who arrived weighing approximately 6 pounds, 6 ounces.
She was the bundle of joy her parents had been waiting for: their first baby.
“…Our little girl is here, and she’s perfect, and we’re so excited to finally be able to hold her,” said Isaac Muniz, Aubriel’s father. Ta.
STHS also helped welcome two other babies on New Year’s Day. They include a boy, Angel, born at 7:59 a.m. at STHS Edinburg and another boy born at 9:40 a.m. at STHS McAllen.
DHR Health also helped deliver the first baby in 2025.
Dallas Anthony Legate was born at 12:10 a.m. at DHR Health Women’s Hospital in Edinburg, weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces.
Dallas, who is 20.75 inches tall, was placed into the loving arms of his parents Kalea and Austin Legate, who also received a gift basket containing baby essentials, goodies and gift cards. .
“We are so proud to celebrate the birth of our first baby this year,” said Marissa Castañeda, senior executive vice president of DHR Health. “This is a special moment for the family and a bright moment for our hospital.”
Newborns will join the ever-growing population, and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population will increase by 75 million people worldwide in 2024, reaching a global population of just over 8.09 billion.
