North Texas – It was a warm day! DFW reached 82 degrees, 26 degrees above the typical high temperature for this time of year. Although well above average, it fell short of the all-time high of 90 degrees set in 1951.
The heat won’t last long. A strong cold front will move across the region overnight, resulting in cooler temperatures. High temperatures on New Year’s Eve will be even cooler, in the mid-50s. At festival time, temperatures drop to 40 degrees by midnight. Be sure to be prepared if you plan to go out.
A ridge of high pressure will develop throughout the rest of the week, with plenty of sunshine and a slight build-up of high pressure into the early part of the weekend.
But there are big changes in the forecast for Sunday. An arctic front brings the potential for rain and bone-chilling temperatures. The Climate Prediction Center has released an outlook that shows temperatures are expected to be below average next week. The First Alert Weather Team predicts morning temperatures will drop below freezing starting next Tuesday. Now is the time to prepare for the possibility of freezing.
This week we welcomed a new year blessed with calm and sunny skies. enjoy!
