DEMING, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — New Mexico State Police successfully located and rescued five children kidnapped in Texas after an automatic license plate reader identified the vehicle they were traveling in.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 16, Deming police officers received a report of missing endangered cubs taken by their biological mother, Kwanis Tippit, 31, from Texas. Received.
A warning was issued for a black SAAB sedan with Texas plates.
An automatic license plate reader detected the vehicle and helped officers determine its last known location and direction.
Officers found the car parked at Love’s Travel Center in Roseburg, New Mexico.
Tippit was arrested on kidnapping charges by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody without incident.
The suspect who was with Tippit, Charles Jones, 32, was also arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.
The children were taken to the Roseburg State Police Department, where they were retaken into custody by representatives of the Texas Department of Child Protective Services.
