Austin-No.1 Texas Softball is staying at home for another game after a weekend packed with Longhorn invitations. Texas is hosting former Big 12 rival Baylor for a mid-week matchup at Red and Charline McCombs Field.
The two lonely Star State teams last played each other in April 2024. At that time, the Longhorns defeated the Bears 3-0 in the Austin and Waco Home and Home Series. With a total of 41 wins over Baylor, 22 people came into Texas’ home ground, but even playing for Waco, the Longhorns led 17-16.
Four consecutive series victories through Baylor, Texas, established the longest winning streak in rival history since the seven-game winning streak from March 27, 2019 to May 6, 2022.
Last year, Texas travelled to Waco for the first game of the series, beating the hosts 14-1 in six innings. At the time, new center fielder Kaden Henry led the team with three men, tied with senior two-base Alissa Washington, who left the team following a College World Series run in 2024.
Heading towards today’s matchup, Scott is only three shy hits to be second on the program’s career hit list. At 251, she was able to tie or pass Brejae Washington (2011-14) at 254. The current record is set at 362 by Janae Jefferson (2018-22). Scott is the only active Division I player ranked in the career games played, Top 5 of Lands and Top 5 of Lands on a bat, hit, total basis.
Junior catcher Lee Atwood can also move her name to the program’s record list with another home run. Atwood is one homer because he ties Mary Iacopo (2019-22) third with 42. She could also pass Lindsay Stevens (2013-16) at RBI if she could record three or more. Atwood is currently located at 164, Stephens A 166.
Texas will face Baylor at 6pm before heading to the Ohio State Tournament in Columbus this weekend.
