Champaign, Illinois – The 11th Texas women’s tennis was down by Michigan No. 7, 4-1 in the comfort round of the ITA National Indoor Championship in Champaign, Illinois on Sunday.
The Longhorns are Nos. Nos, earning dramatic doubles points in victory in 1 and 3, and was positioned in both unfinished singles matches. I failed to contests in 2, 5, 3, and 1.
The match began with Michigan’s second-ever freshman Carmen Helea and Salmadragdova making a 6-1 decision by Julia Friganner and Rees Miller, who are 45 pairs. The Longhorns broke with deuce points in the opening game, but they won a six straight game, including two Deuce points.
It was followed by a top 30 win between the Ashton Bauers freshman duo and Ariana Anazagusti Palsau. After both teams held the opening serve starting from Texas, both teams appeared at Deuce Points to get Michigan a 2-1 lead before the Longhorns tied it together. The next five games remained in serve until Texas defeated the point for Deuce. This is because the final three games of the match were decided by deuce.
It left it to the game on No. 3, with senior Sabina Zeynaroba and freshman Esther Meri appearing from the tiebreaker with a 7-6 (6) win over Lily Jones and Ava Bruno. The first four games were serves starting from Texas until Michigan took a 3-2 lead. The next four games were headed towards DEUCE despite holding a 0-40 and 0-30 lead in Wolverines’ next two service games. Texas was 5-4, with Michigan leading again to build a 0-30 lead in UM’s next service game and headed for Deuce again, but this time the Longhorns continue to live out the game and doubles points I captured the point. Texas then advanced on hold and scored match points in their next match at Deuce, but Michigan was able to tie it together and send it to the tiebreaker. So the Longhorns jumped out for a 4-0 lead that kept them 5-1, but Wolverine tied them together on their own 5-1 run. However, Texas ended the run with two straight points for the victory and scored points.
In the singles, Michigan equalized the overall score as No. 92 Esther Meri lost 6-2 on No. 2 and 6-0 to Piper Charney in the 30th. , she took a 2-1 lead. The next two games both went to Deuce, but Charney both claimed they would start an 11-0 run with her victory.
The Wolverines then took the lead after Anazagusti Pullso fell 6-4 on No. 5 and 6-1 on No. 66 Reese Miller. – Point break in the opening game. However, Miller scored the first set on a 9-0 run and established a 3-0 lead in the second set. Two of these games went to Deuce, including the final run of the hold. Anazagasty-Pursoo regained one game with serves, but Miller won in the final three games.
The next match was when No. 105 Bowers finished with No. 36 Lily Jones, 6-4, 6-2, with No. 3. Jones began the match with a break and hold for a 2-0 lead. The Bowers then grabbed 2-1 at Deuce and then regained the destruction 3-3. However, Jones broke again with a 4-3 lead, with the final three games taking her victory. Jones opened the second set with a break and deuce point hold with a 2-0 lead, and served in the next four games until Jones broke again and scored a victory.
The Clinch has come to No. 1. There, No. 71 Zeynalova got a bit shorter with the tiebreaker in the first set, then dropped to No. 4 in the top five opponents, 7-6 (7), 6-1. Zeynalova took the first two games with Deuce Points for breaks and holds. Friegner got a breakback two games later, and remained in a tiebreaker serve for the rest of the set. On a similar progression to Zeynalova’s Doubles Tiebreaker, she pushed for a 5-2 lead before Fliegner tied it 6-6 and moved on to the 7-6. Again, Zeynalova responded with 3 straight points and won. In the second set, Friegner won his first three games and the final three games, centering on a deuce point break from Zeinaroba.
It left two matches on the court, unfinished at No. 25, leading Emily Salzland, who leads No. 25, Heleah. Come to Deuce for hold and break. Sartz-Lunde regained one game with serve, but Herea also closed the set with a 3-0 run capped at Deuce-Point Hold. Both players held the opening serve of the second set, starting with Sartz-Lunde. All the next six games went to Deuce, the first four were held and the last two were rested 4-4. Sartz-Lunde then held it and broke and sent it to a third. In that frame, Helea broke and took a 2-0 lead. She also held her next serve 3-1 at Deuce and held Salzland before play stopped.
In the final match, junior No. 78 Vivian Ovrootsky was on the trail, but Jessica Bernales, 3-6, 6-1, 3-4, No. Served in the third set of 6. Following the four games, Bernales was closed in the last two after Ovrootsky took the next three. Ovrootsky started the second set with Deuce-Point Hold and also held Bernales, before Ovrootsky started a 7-0 run and established a 2-0 lead in the third set. Bernares then grabbed the deuce point and broke it, and the set ended with two breaks and holds.
Texas will travel to Fort Worth for a game at TCU on Thursday, February 20th.
