AUSTIN, Texas – No. 13 Texas volleyball defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 25-11, 25-23, 25-12 in the NCAA first round Thursday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (19-6) advance to the NCAA second round and will face USC at Gregory Gym on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Madisen Skinner led the way with 15 kills and recorded her team-high seventh double-double with 11 digs, hitting .444 for the game.
Both Texas middle blockers had great games, with Marianna Singletary finishing with 10 kills and three blocks and Aiden Ames finishing with eight kills and five blocks.
Aveli Carlson had 38 assists and added two kills, one service and one dig. Emma Holter led the back row with 10 goals and one assist.
The Longhorns batted .560 in the first set, holding the Islanders to a .040 batting average and won 25-11. Skinner and Rutherford led the way with four kills each, while Ames and Singletary each added three kills.
The Islanders struggled in the second set, but Texas won the second set 25-23. The Longhorns were still able to hit .317 in the set, with Skinner adding eight more kills to lead the way.
The Longhorns closed out the final set strong, winning 25-12 to complete the sweep.
