WVU Game Notes
– The climber is 37-6 this season after dropping the match to Marshall in Charleston on Wednesday.
-WVU swept four straight 12 series over Utah, Houston, Cincinnati and UCF, earning the climber first in the Big 12 with a 16-3 record and two games ahead of Kansas, Arizona and TCU.
-30 wins in 34 games was the second fastest in program history, only after the 1963 team that began 30-2.
– The climber won the first 13 games of the season, the fourth-best start in program history.
– Steve Savins is in his first season at the helm of Morgantown. He has spent the past three seasons on staff along with mountaineers.
– Climbers were selected fourth in the Big 12 preseason poll. This is the best predictive finish since joining the league.
– West Virginia finished with a record of over .500 in 11 of the 12 Big 12 seasons.
– The climber’s 56 game schedule features 14 meetings with teams that have reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
-2025 will be 11 seasons in which mountaineers play at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The field was named after Rick and Jayway Genner on August 30, 2021. Rick Wagener was a standout pitcher for WVU from 1968-71. The ballpark was renamed in 2024 after the owner of Arizona Diamondbacks, Kenkendrick and his family alums and principals.
-WVU is scheduled to play 25 home games this spring. The team has a winning record at the facility for the eighth consecutive year, finishing the 17-6 season in the game they played for Morgantown.
– Climbers finished their historic season in 2024, making their first advance to the NCAA Super Regional in the history of the program. WVU swept the Tucson area as three seeds before falling into two one-run games in North Carolina.
