SEC Player of the Week – September 30th
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas junior left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. has won the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Offensive Lineman of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday. This is Banks’ first career weekly honor.
The Humble, Texas, native appeared in 34 games and started for the Longhorns. Entering the 2024 season, Banks was named to the 2024 Preseason All-America First Team by The Associated Press, CBS Sports, ESPN, Sporting News, and The Athletic. He was also named to the 2024 Preseason All-SEC First Team by the media and named to the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Trophy Preseason Watch Lists.
Banks paved the way for 522 total yards, including 324 through the air and 198 on the ground, in the Longhorns’ first conference game, a 35-13 win over Mississippi State on September 28. He was the highest-graded player on the offensive line. SEC.Banks allowed no sacks or quarterback pressures from the left tackle position. The offense averaged 8.4 yards per play and 6.4 yards per rush, but only gave up 11 rushing yards in the game. The line provided a pocket for quarterback Arch Manning, who completed 26 of 31 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns, and completed passes for three rushing touchdowns. Four different receivers caught at least four passes, including DeAndre Moore Jr., who had a career-high 103 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Texas has scored at least 30 points in every game this season, with three performances of 50 points or more.
Banks and the Longhorns enter a bye week before taking on No. 19/17 Oklahoma in this year’s Allstate Red River Rivalry on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The game will be broadcast on ABC or ESPN.
