Austin, Texas – The second Texas scored nine times in the first two innings, beating Houston Christians in a 12-2 run rule at UFCU Dishfarkfield on Tuesday evening.
The Longhorns (27-4) were tallied on four of the six trips to the plate highlighted in six runs.
Second baseman Ethan Mendoza led the charges as the sophomore scored three hits in total and five career-high RBIs.
Mendoza delivered a two-run single as part of the second round of chopped numbers, and notched an RBI-based hit in the third. Two innings later he concluded his career night with a double that drove in a pair of tallies.
Meanwhile, outfielders Easton Winfield and Tommy Farmer IV each awarded several runs in doubles, while first baseman Kimburu Schuesler socked his third solo shot.
On the mound, Texas used five pitchers to keep the Husky (20-11) just two runs with four hits.
Right-handed Jason Flores (3-1) won the victory with the relief of Southpaw Cade Bin, who notched the first four outs.
Flores pitched 2 2/3 innings, bringing both tallies on the third consecutive groundout.
Right-wingers Grayson Saunier, Drew Lerick and Aiden Moffett combined to make Houston Christian a hitless in the final three frames.
The Longhorns then make their first trip to Lexington, Kentucky, at 5:30pm on Friday when Texas opens a three-game set against the Wildcats.
