AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 5 Texas women’s basketball team held the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to 13 second-half points in a 94-35 victory Sunday at the Moody Center.
Sophomore Madison Booker had 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, zero turnovers and three steals. Kyla Oldacre led Texas with 21 points on 6-of-6 field goals. Taylor Jones scored in double figures with 11 points and added nine rebounds. Freshmen Brianna Preston and Jordan Lee each scored nine points.
The Longhorns made 80.8 percent of their free throws and added 21 points on the board. Texas forced 37 turnovers on UTRGV and converted 47 points off those turnovers. The Longhorns dominated the Vaqueros, outrebounding UTRGV 44-29.
Jones’ field goal put Texas up 10-0 to start the first quarter. Following Booker’s layup, Texas went on an 11-0 spurt to extend the lead to 21-3. Texas then committed 13 turnovers and added 17 points to take a 24-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
On a 7-0 run with 0:42 to play, the Longhorns started the second quarter with a successful field goal by Vaquero at 3:34. Oldaker went on to record 13 points and five rebounds, giving the Longhorns a 46-22 lead at halftime.
With a jumper from Booker and an assist from Harmon, Texas started the second half on a 6-0 run. Booker had eight points, four rebounds and four assists, giving the Longhorns a 70-26 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Booker made two free throws to start the fourth quarter against the Vaqueros. Texas went on a 6-0 run with 0:54 left in the game to extend its lead and finished the game at 94-35.
No. 5 Texas will then enter conference play, traveling to Norman, Oklahoma to take on No. 9 Oklahoma on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

• Texas improved to 13-1 on the season. The Longhorns have won six straight at the Moody Center this season and are 7-0.
