AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 6/No. 6 Texas women’s basketball team held RV South Dakota State to 15 points fewer than their season average in points, the most the Jackrabbits have allowed this season, in a game at the Moody Center on Tuesday. They scored 39 more points than they scored and won 103-57. Sunday.
Texas ended the Jackrabbits’ winning streak at seven and enters the holiday break at 12-1 with one non-conference game remaining before SEC play begins.
Freshman Justice Carlton had 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds, the second-highest point total of his career. Senior Taylor Jones had 15 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and 22nd of her career. Freshman guard Jordan Lee started and added 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and four rebounds, while guard Lori Harmon had 13 points, seven assists and six steals.
Njakarenga Mwenentane from South Dakota State scored 10 points in 11 minutes.
Texas’ freshmen (Justice Carlton, Jordan Lee, Brianna Preston) totaled 41 points on 17-of-27 shooting (63%) from the field.
Texas never trailed in the contest, shooting 53.9 percent from the floor (41-for-76) and 89.5 percent from the free-throw line (17-for-19).
At the start of the first quarter, Lee scored seven points in the first 3 minutes and 27 seconds of the game. Texas ended the first quarter up 24-11 on a layup by freshman Brianna Preston.
At the end of the first half, the Longhorns went on a 10-0 run at the 3:59 mark of the second quarter, increasing their lead to 53-26. Carlton was the leading scorer in the first half, scoring 17 of Texas’ 29 points in the second quarter.
A layup and free throw from senior guard Lori Harmon gave the Longhorns a 56-26 lead to start the second half. Texas continued in the third quarter, going on a 6-0 run with 1:48 left in the game to extend its lead. Toward the end of the fourth quarter, Texas made its final four shots.
Next, the Longhorns will host UT vs. Rio Grande Valley on Sunday, Dec. 29 at the Moody Center. Information will be broadcast on SEC Network at 3:00 PM CT.

Texas improved to 12-1 on the season. Four Texas players finished in double digits. In this game, 10 Longhorns off the bench scored 46 points. Texas dominated in the paint 60-30. The Longhorns had 25 assists. Texas forced South Dakota State into 21 turnovers and scored 31 points off those turnovers. Texas grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and turned them into 24 second-chance points. Lori Harmon had a season-high six stolen bases. Brianna Preston had a career-high six assists. Judge Carlton led the team with 19 points, Taylor Jones, the second-highest scorer of his career, blocked four shots and Shay Hall blocked three shots. Lori Harmon’s seven assists brought her career total to 586. Harmon moved into second place on the Longhorns’ all-time list with 20 assists. The Longhorns scored over 100 points for the third time this season. Texas is averaging 91.5 points per game and has an average margin of victory of 35.3 points. The Longhorns have held opponents to 60 points or less in nine games this season.
