Round 1 results Round 2 tee times
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — The No. 8 Texas men’s golf team sits in eighth place after the opening round of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational Tournament at Olympia Fields Country Club on Friday at 1-over 281. The Longhorns are eight strokes behind the leader after the opening 18 holes but just two strokes behind the second-place tie.
Junior Luke Potter finished tied for third in the individual standings with a 2-under 68. In addition to Potter’s performance, Texas also got scores from junior Christian Maass (1-under 69), junior Tommy Morrison (1-under 69) and sophomore Ben Delarosa (5-over 75) on Friday.
No. 2 Arizona State is six strokes ahead in the team standings after shooting 7-under 273. No. 9 Florida, No. 16 North Carolina and No. 17 Georgia Tech are tied for second at 1-under 279 each. Of the 15 teams in the field, 12 are ranked in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll (Sept. 20), including five in the top 10.
Arizona State’s Jose Luis Ballester and Georgia Tech’s Benjamin Reuter each shot a 6-under 64 to share the individual lead after the first 18 holes. Potter is one of eight players tied for third at 2-under 68.
Due to inclement weather forecasted for the Chicago area later this weekend, tee times for Saturday’s second round have been moved up 30 minutes to begin at 7:30 a.m. CST. Play will continue through the third round with the goal of completing the remaining 36 holes of the tournament on Saturday. If all 36 holes are not completed tomorrow, the remaining competition will conclude on Sunday.
Texas will face No. 5 Illinois and Northwestern in the second round on Saturday, with first tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. Central time.

Junior Luke Potter shot a season-best 2-under 68 to tie for third place on the individual standings. Potter shot 14 pars on Friday, recording three birdies (on the fifth, twelfth and fifteenth holes) against just one bogey (on the 16th hole). Junior Tommy Morrison shot a 1-under 69 to tie for 11th place. After five birdies in his opening round, Morrison was 1-over after the first 14 holes, but birdies on the 16th and 17th holes put him at 1-under. Junior Christian Maas shot a 1-under 69 to tie for 11th place. After shooting four birdies on Friday, Maas was 1-over at the turn, but birdies on the 10th and 17th holes put him at 1-under with seven pars on the back nine. Sophomore Ben Delarosa shot a 5-over 75 to tie for 61st place. Sophomore Jack Gilbert shot an eight-over 78 to finish tied for 74th.
