AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 8 ranked Texas volleyball team finished off non-conference play with a 3-1 win over Hawaii, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, in a non-conference match at Gregory Gymnasium on Friday.
The Longhorns (5-3) drew a crowd of 4,531 at Gregory Gymnasium, playing in front of a sellout crowd for their 32nd consecutive game.
Jenna Wenas led the Longhorns with 15 kills, a .448 hitting percentage, six digs and one service ace, while Hawaii native Devin Kahahawai had a career-high 12 kills and a .476 hitting percentage.
The Longhorns fought hard from start to finish, winning the first set 25-14.
Texas trailed for much of the second set, trailing 25-20, before going on a stunning 7-0 run to take the lead, but Hawaii fought back quickly to retake the lead and win set 25-23. The Longhorns were held to a .200 hitting average in this set after hitting .611 in set one.
The Longhorns got back on track with a 25-17 victory in the third set, hitting .417. Texas jumped out to a big 8-1 lead and withstood a Hawaii onslaught to regain the lead.
Texas carried that momentum into the fourth set, winning 25-19. The Longhorns shot .500 in the set to seal the win.
Texas will be in SEC action next week, taking on Texas A&M in College Station on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
