NEW MAN, Oklahoma — Sunday marked the final regular season home game for the fourth-placed Oklahoma Soulers, and the third-placed Texas Longhorns were away from ruining the senior day festival, but OU scored one run on the sixth bottom and scored a 9-8 victory to finish the three-game series.
Many of the Oklahoma Crimson and White were expecting five innings on Sunday, so after three full innings, Texas had other ideas and displayed those thoughts in the next two frames.
After not having a base runner for the entire first three innings of the game, Ashton Marony put the second pitch in the appearance of the fourth plate back in the middle for a leadoff single. Following Kayden Henry, he drew a four-pitch walk before the wheel began to sway in Sooner’s cart.
During the next 20 pitches thrown by two Oklahoma pitchers, the Texas offense involved five consecutive singles, bringing in five runs. Leighann Goode made a two-run contest with one single at a time on the left side, following the selection of the fielder.
Mia Scott began his actions by drawing a six-pitch walk, so the next inning was the same. She came to get five pitches when Texas sophomore Katie Stewart blows up 251 feet 0-0 pitch on a two-run home run for the game tying to cap the Longhorns’ eighth unanswered run.
Cambria Salmon (6-1) was trying to break through against the Texas freshman right-handed with sacrifice fly after loading the base into the bottom of the sixth after Cambrian Salmon (6-1) removed the Oklahoma attack from the running column in the fourth and fifth innings.
Texas had a chance in seven innings as Reese Atwood drew a full count walk and represented a game-tying run by himself alone. However, Stewart and Mitchell were unable to take Cady Bennett, who ran towards Atwood from the start.
From head coach Mike White
“Well, we managed to make a game of things, but not enough to win. Obviously giving up 23 runs in three games is hard to overcome, but we were pleased with how the team was able to fight back. But Oklahoma deserves a sweep of the series.
