Early donations for North Texas Giving Day began on September 1, and many local nonprofits have already begun accepting donations. North Texas Giving Day is a community-wide online giving event hosted by the Texas Community Foundation. This year, North Texas Giving Day is Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 6 a.m. to midnight. Early donations run from September 1 to 18. More than 3,000 nonprofits are participating on the day, including about a dozen based in Fannin County. Each nonprofit is raising funds to support their mission. The platform makes it easy to donate to your favorite charities.
Fannin County will host a community celebration on North Texas Giving Day (September 19th) from 6-9pm at the Creative Arts Center in Bonham. This family-friendly event will feature free tacos, live music and other fun activities. Admission is free, and people are highly encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Credit Union of Texas will be handing out free tacos from its food truck from 6 to 7:30 p.m. or until supplies last. Kidz Krew, the Creative Arts Center’s children and youth theater program, will open a small concession stand to help raise funds for their upcoming production, “To Be Frank(enstein).” Items for sale will include bottled water, canned soda, chips and desserts. Neighbor’s Place Winery will also be setting up a stand, selling wine slushies and wine by the glass.
Starting at 6 p.m., 12 local nonprofits will set up tables in the Creative Arts Center’s backyard and invite people to let people know about their missions and donate to their favorite charities on the North Texas Giving Day website. Donations not only support the efforts of these local missions, but they will also help nonprofits complete matching gift challenges, earn bonus funds, and have a chance to win cash prizes.
Participating local nonprofits include Abiding Fathers, Bonham Education Foundation, Creative Arts Center, Fannin County Children’s Center, Fannin County Family Crisis Center, Fannin County Food Pantry, Fannin Health Clinic, Feeding Fannin, Getting Ahead, Katybugs & Butterflies Foundation, Lucky & Sadie’s Place and Open Arms Shelter.
The Creative Arts Centre is also kicking off its six-week fall Music in the Garden series on this day. The Centre is excited to welcome back Bonham native Jimi Watusi. Jimi has performed with and opened for some of the biggest names in reggae music, including The Wailers. His shows will have you dancing and singing along with him. Jimi will be bringing along his great friend Kenny Withrow on guitar. Kenny has performed with many great artists over his 40-year career, including The New Bohemians. We will also have Bonham native Brad Silwood playing horn. This is a show not to be missed. Music in the Garden will run weekly at the Arts Centre, every Thursday from 7pm for a total of six weeks.
Admission is free. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for this family-friendly event at the Creative Arts Center, 200 W. 5th in Downtown Bonham. Donate online to your favorite charity on North Texas Giving Day. North Texas Giving Day.
