Lewisville, Texas – A North Texas woman has launched a nonprofit organization to create a safe place for widows and widowers to heal as they cope with unimaginable loss.
Broken Halos Haven allows families from all over the country to travel to North Texas for a fresh start.
Natalie Reed-Knutson, co-founder of Broken Halos Heaven, said: “It’s okay for sadness and joy to hold hands. The pain of loss is always present, but it’s okay to move forward with renewed feelings. No,” he said.
Reed-Knutson lost her first love, Wayne, to a heart attack in 2018.
Wayne and Natalie had three boys. She did for her children what any mother would do during a time of grief.
“We needed an escape. We didn’t want to be here on Christmas morning because it would have been hard. We have friends who live in New York and we wanted to make new memories and have fun. “I spent a week there,” Reed-Knutson recalled.
This trip sparked the idea for a sanctuary where families could not only find hope and healing, but more importantly, build new memories moving forward.
Three years after her husband’s death, she co-founded Broken Halos Haven.
“This is to empower widows who are currently raising children on their own and let them know that they can put their children on a plane, drive eight hours or across town to spend time here. It’s just a distraction from that new norm,” Reed said. – Knutson.
The 1920 renovated home is located in Louisville’s Old Town.
We offer families the opportunity to visit the Metroplex and provide resources and support throughout their healing journey.
“Drive a go-kart or ride a Ferris wheel at Grandscapes, or take the train to Denton for burgers and ice cream. A trampoline park five miles away, a sloth experience, and more can all be registered.” said Reed-Knutson.
All the fun is free for grieving families. Because the price of giving is simply finding that spark, that gift, and giving it back to others with purpose.
It’s something Reid Knutson knows all too well.
“Our first family came to us and she happened to be a widow with three children from New York, which is ironic because my children and I were inspired by this. “It was a trip to New York that I took to give, so it was kind of a full-circle moment for me,” she said.
That’s why this place has succeeded in becoming a place where families from all over the country find a reason to travel and smile again.
