Officers were called to the facility at 1420 McCleary Road after a resident’s family reported witnessing an unknown male engaging in sexual activity with the resident’s roommate through a security camera installed inside the home. The family noticed the roommate’s lack of mental capacity and alerted staff, who contacted law enforcement.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Dudley Hammond of Louisville, Kentucky, was a visitor to the facility. The Wylie Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division immediately began investigating the charges. The resident involved was removed from the facility by his family, and the facility was instructed to notify police if Hammond returned.
Detectives received information that Hammond would return to the facility on December 4, 2024. Surveillance was set up and Hammond was taken into custody at 11:04 a.m. that same day on a warrant obtained for indecent assault. After interviewing Hammond, an additional charge of aggravated sexual assault was filed.
Garnet Hill has been cooperative throughout the investigation and is conducting an internal investigation. No other victims are believed to be involved at this time, according to the Wylie Police Department.
