A North Texas middle school educator was taken into custody this week on sex crime charges related to a former student, local police said.
Angela Burns, 45, faces charges of sexual assault of a child and maintaining an inappropriate relationship with a student, as stated in a press release from the Keller Police Department on Monday.
The defendant works as an educator at Carroll Middle School, located in an affluent and upscale area of Fort Worth and the more distant Dallas suburbs. The city is primarily located in Tarrant County, with smaller areas extending north into Denton County. Keller is a relatively affluent area located just to the west.
Authorities reported that Burns was taken into custody on Monday after a month-long investigation concluded without incident. According to a police report, authorities responded to allegations that the teacher “had an inappropriate relationship with a former student who was underage” during the previous summer break.
“Authorities immediately began an investigation and determined that Mr. Burns engaged in sexual relations with a minor between June and July 2024, after which the investigation was closed,” the police department said.
Information regarding the charges is limited at this time.
However, school officials quickly responded to the situation.
Carroll Independent School District shared a detailed summary of the response in a statement to Dallas Fox affiliate KDFW.
Authorities say there are not believed to be any additional victims, but are encouraging the community to share any relevant details.
After his arrest, the individual was taken into custody and processed at Keller Regional Jail.
