Crossroads leaders said they are responding to an urgent need for quality, nutritious food by distributing meal essentials to an average of 1,100 families each month.
In 2023, we distributed approximately 12.5 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 10,416,666 meals.
The facility receives significant support from the local community and relies on the success of its annual Nourish Change Breakfast to help make up for funding gaps in feeding those who are food insecure.
This year is no exception.
“We’re hosting it inside our warehouse, so people can really see what’s going on with families, children and seniors when they come in to buy groceries,” said Benai Wadkins Chambers, president and CEO of Crossroads, “and they can also see the tremendous amount of food we’re distributing to our community through our partnership with the North Texas Food Bank.”
The facility on Cockrell Hill Road in Dallas is hosting its third annual Nourish Change Breakfast, an event celebrating people who are turning the tide of food insecurity with innovative solutions.
This year’s speaker will be celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern, who is known for speaking out about food insecurity and climate change and who says food insecurity, waste and the climate crisis are interconnected, and is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme.
“I’ve done a lot of events in my career, but when I was talking with my board about starting this event, we were really conscious of bringing in a speaker like Andrew Zimmern who can bring new understanding to the issue. Andrew is a member of the White House Council on Hunger and Food Insecurity and a member of the United Nations Board of Governors. He’s an advocate against food waste and how to avoid it. He’s a real advocate for the issue and dedicated to expanding knowledge,” Wadkins Chambers said.
The third annual Nourish Change Breakfast will be held at Crossroads on Friday, Oct. 11. Arrival is at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8 a.m.
