Optic Texas has announced that Kenny ‘Kenny’ Williams has been released from its starting lineup ahead of its second Call of Duty League (CDL) Major of the Year.
The change comes after the North American eSports organization achieved one of the worst loss records in Call of Duty eSports history during a major two qualifying match.
In Major 2 Qualifying, Optic Texas recorded 18 consecutive losses before securing a victory over the Los Angeles Guerilla M8 in the final game before the CDL headed for the second LAN event of the season.
Despite the surprising results of the 2024 CDL champion, this move produced a mixed reaction from green wall fans.
“Who will become the IGL (in-game leader)?” I asked one fan. “Why is it so slow? I added another one.
Optic Texas has yet to announce an alternative to Williams, which has represented the organization from Los Angeles thieves since July 2023.
The fourth player in the starting lineup is rumoured to be Cesar “Skies” Bueno, now replacing the Los Angeles Guerilla M8. The 25-year-old rose to the top of Call of Duty eSports by winning the CDL Championship as part of the New York Subliners in 2023.
Kenny’s departure from Optic Texas marks the second change the team has made since Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 became a competitive CDL title.
In February, the team announced the return of Amer ‘Pred’ Zulbeari, replacing Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland, who represented the organization in his first major in Madrid, Spain.
The second CDL major for 2025 will be held from March 20-23, 2025 at the Texas Event Center Credit Union in Allen, Texas.
Teams start the tournament with an elimination bracket where one defeat from the tournament eliminates them.
