“Tourism is important to both the local and state economy, supporting 11 jobs in Texas,” Gov. Abbott said. He emphasized that travelers will create an annual economic impact of over $193.8 billion and help 1.3 million jobs across the state. Abbott encouraged other Texan communities to seek this accreditation to promote the growth of local tourism and employment.
Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell praised Port Aransas for capturing the essence of the Texas Gulf Coast, noting the sandy beaches, world-class fishing and the island atmosphere. “This designation as a tourism-friendly Texas community celebrates Port Aransas’ dedication to creating a cozy island destination,” Fennell said.
Rep. Todd Hunter emphasized its role in introducing the beauty and hospitality of the Gulf Coast and expressed pride in Port Aransas’ recognition. Mayor Wendy Moore reflected these sentiments and recognized the dedication of the residents and businesses to make Port Aransas a memorable destination.
Brett Tower, president and CEO of the Port Aransas Tourism Board and the Chamber of Commerce, attributed the certification to collective efforts in the community. “The work we do every day makes sure Port Aransas is our destination,” Stawar said.
Tourism-friendly Texas Community Programs can be used by local governments or nonprofits to lead tourism promotion efforts.
