Power plant data centers and real estate and investment company Provident is developing a large data center campus in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas.
AREP-owned power plant and reserve data centre this week announced the joint development of a 768-acre data centre campus with 1.8GW of switch yards.
The first 500MW tranche, located just outside Gran Prairie in northern Ellis County, has already been approved through Elcott. This is the first project of the recently announced joint venture.
The first building is set to be energized in May 2026. The company said a total of 24 buildings will be developed on the campus in three phases.
Provident Data Center is the data center division of Provident, a Dallas-based real estate development company.
Powerhouse and Provident announced a joint venture to develop the campus at DFW last month, but did not provide details on the scope of the project.
“Provident and Powerhouse are committed to creating lasting benefits for the communities we build,” said Leon Backes, founder and CEO of Provident. “This campus creates important economic opportunities in Texas and strengthens the state’s position as a key hub for digital infrastructure and next-generation computing. It offers high-quality projects that meet the evolving needs of the market. We are working on development and this data center campus is illustrated. Its commitment.”
The joint venture marks Powerhouse’s second Texas project, which announced its 200MW project in the Irving area of Dallas last year.
Doug Fleit, co-founder and CEO of Powerhouse Data Centers, added: Ability to meet the toughest hyperscale requirements in the fast-paced world we live in. ”
Provident offers data center development services including location protection, feasibility research, power procurement, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure design. The current portfolio includes nine data center projects. Eight in Texas and one in New Mexico.
The developer also announced plans to build a data center on a 200-acre site in northwest Indiana last May. The plan was rejected. Provident then pitched seven construction campuses in Burns Harbor, Indiana in August. Last year, Provident sold its existing Texas site warehouse site in Irving to Powhouse.
On its website, Provident lists six Texas projects: Gran Prairie, Fort Worth, Irving, Plano, Dallas and Austin. It also lists three “legacy” projects in Dallas and Richardson, as well as projects in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Founded in 2022, Powerhouse is a complete division of American real estate partners, with plans or under construction of 6GW or more capacity in Northern Virginia, Virginia, Texas and North Carolina.
