Texas vs UTSA | Freshmen’s Instant Reactions | College Football Week 3 Freshmen! | Inside Scoop
Texas pulled off another dominant win against UTSA on Saturday, 56-7, but it came at a cost: Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers was injured in the second quarter against the Roadrunners and did not return.
Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t offer much after the game about when Ewers might return — Texas plans to perform further tests on him this week to determine the severity of his injury — but he did note that the unfortunate contusion allowed backup Arch Manning to return to practice.

“It’s an oblique sprain,” he said. “We don’t know yet how severe it is or how long it’s been. I don’t think it’s a structural issue or a fracture or anything like that. It was a weird play, but it gave Arch some valuable playing time and experience.”
Manning, a former No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class, started to impact the game immediately after taking charge. He caught a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr. on the first play of the game and never looked back.

On the ensuing drive, Manning scored on a 67-yard scramble, showing more than just his arm talent: He finished the game completing 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns, impressing his head coach.
“When Arch goes in, you never know when he’s going to be in the game as a backup,” Sarkisian said. “He went in on the first play and scored a touchdown for DeAndre Moore, he came in on the third play and ran a little bit of a different style of offense, read the zone for an explosive play, made some good plays for us and extended drives with third downs, so it was a great experience for him.”
At the very least, Manning’s play today gives Texas confidence they can hold out until Quinn Ewers is fully recovered from his injury. We’ll have to wait for further updates this week to find out when that will be.
Texas will next face Louisiana-Monroe next Saturday at 7pm CST.
