Most of the buzz swirling around the St. Louis Cardinals over the last month or so has been about who the team is parting with this offseason.
It’s clear the Cardinals are looking to make a change and possibly make a clean sweep. St. Louis will be parting ways with a few players, but they will certainly acquire a few players as well, as they need to prepare their roster for the 2025 season.
With free agency about to begin in earnest, MLB Trade Rumors’ Steve Adams, Anthony Franco, Darragh McDonald and Tim Darkes have compiled a list of the top 50 free agents, along with contract and team projections. McDonald predicted All-Star relief pitcher David Robertson would sign a one-year, $11 million contract with St. Louis.
“David Robertson: 1 year, $11 million,” MLB Trade Rumors posted. “Tim: (Pittsburgh Pirates): Anthony: (Washington Nationals) / Darragh: Cardinals / Steve: (Los Angeles Dodgers). Robertson turns 40 in April, and looking at his pitches, It’s hard to believe.”He was essentially out of baseball from 2019 to 2021, and that’s because he came roaring back as a high-leverage arm of the highest order…
“This was undoubtedly Robertson’s best performance since 2017. His age will make a multi-year deal difficult, but as long as he continues to pitch like this, Robertson will be able to earn eight figures for a year. We’ll be able to get him a contract.” Many clubs can’t afford to take that kind of financial risk on a 40-year-old reliever, so clubs that pay big salaries (like the New York Mets) can’t. be. ), (New York Yankees), (Boston Red Sox), Dodgers, and (San Francisco Giants) appear to be the most likely to sign the veteran late star. ”
Robertson spent the 2024 season with the Texas Rangers, posting a 3.00 ERA in 68 games. The $11 million contract may be expensive, but the Cardinals will need more bullpen help.
