Governor Greg Abbott announced this week that Rockwall has become the fifth community in Texas to receive the Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community designation from Travel Texas. The evaluation, as part of the program’s first year, underscores Rockwall’s commitment to developing tourism as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
“Tourism is critical to both the local and state economies,” Abbott said, noting that tourism generated more than $193.8 billion in Texas in 2023 and supported 1.3 million jobs. He praised Rockwall’s efforts and encouraged other communities to apply for the designation.
Tim Fennell, director of Travel Texas, highlighted Rockwall’s unique blend of lakeside activities, shopping and dining as an ideal North Texas getaway.
Rockwall Mayor Trace Johannessen expressed pride in Rockwall’s accomplishments and emphasized the economic benefits and community partnerships that tourism brings.
