TXDOT – CarFit is coming to Paradise Park in McAllen, Texas. We’re giving over 55 drivers a free chance to see how their car ‘fits’.
Developed in partnership between AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), CarFit trained professionals
It puts older drivers through a 12-point checklist of their cars and recommends tweaks to make their cars more ‘fit’ for increased comfort and safety. Occupational therapists are also on-site to provide seniors with information on how to maintain and enhance their driving health.
By 2030, it is estimated that there will be 58.9 million people aged 65 and over, or one in five people. They are expected to account for one in four licensed drivers at that point. Personal mobility is essential for healthy aging, but as our bodies change as we age, an ill-fitting vehicle can make driving uncomfortable and compromise safety. Additionally, older drivers are more vulnerable and have the highest accident death rate per mile of all drivers except teens. CarFit is a tool that helps seniors keep driving safer.
