Featuring local merchants, artisans and food vendors along historic Main Street, this two-week event benefits established businesses and newcomers.
SALAD, Texas — The historic village of Salado is celebrating its 64th annual Christmas Stroll. This is a huge boost for local businesses and marks the town’s evolution into a regional destination offering unique dining and shopping experiences.
The two-week event begins Thursday night with a Christmas parade down Main Street and has already proven to be a success for established businesses and newcomers to the community.
“This is definitely a great time to visit Salado,” said Tracy Eddy, co-owner of Bar 1859, which opened in October. “We have great restaurants and bars, and the whole street is lined with something for everyone.”
For new establishments like Bar 1859, the walk is an opportunity to introduce innovative products, such as artisan pizzas that feature unexpected combinations, such as blackberry toppings with brie and jalapeños.
Sandy Carlson, owner of Presley Boutique, which opened in June 2023, emphasizes the importance of events like this for business visibility.
“About 80 percent of the customers who shop with me are from Georgetown, Austin, Cedar Park, and those areas,” Carlson explains. “Without events like this, they don’t know about us. Salado is small, so we’re hiding here.”
The walk also represents a blend of tradition and innovation for companies like 7 Bar Boutique.
“We carry on our grandfather’s legacy through his name,” says owner Lauren Preston, sharing how the business has evolved from its origins as Seven Bar Western Wear. “We just wanted to carry on the tradition.”
Food vendors also take advantage of the event’s regional appeal. Stephen Rosler of Rosler’s Blue Code Barbecue in nearby Harker Heights notes the spirit of cooperation between businesses.
“Just the support of everyone supporting everyone. I think that’s the biggest factor…We’re all here to support each other,” Rosler said.
“It’s a great place. There’s live music, drinks, everything. It’s a fun time. It’s a good thing to be a part of,” said Chance Oliver of Oliver’s Barbecue. Someone who emphasizes family-run businesses.
Local merchants are offering special promotions during your stroll. 7 Bar Boutique features a “stocking bar” where customers can fill their stockings with six items for $65, and various establishments offer military discounts and holiday-themed specials.
Melissa Duncan, co-owner of Empresario Wines, said: “You can stroll around or stop by Empresario Wines and other Salado venues to pick up Christmas supplies or just warm up. “I will,” he said.
Mr. Duncan also highlighted the most popular adult beverage, warm apple cider sangria, which he described as “Christmas in a cup.”
The Salado Christmas Stroll continues until Sunday and runs from December 13th to December 15th. It features live music, holiday treats, and unique shopping opportunities along Main Street.
