Texas vs Vanderbilt score update
Texas will face Texas A&M in Round 2 of the SEC Tournament tomorrow at 2:30pm. The season will live on for the Longhorns.
Kadin Shedrick narrowly avoids an intentional foul call before going to the line.
The partisan Vanderbilt crowds have finally got something to cheer. The Commodore won’t descend without a fight.
The Commodore won a rebound battle in the second half and reached the line. Both remain in the game. They have 19 free throws in the second half alone.
Tramon Mark returned to the game with four Texas fouls. He’s grown into this game while dealing with many of his point guard duties. Julian Larry played in just four minutes.
Jason Edwards drains 3 for Vanderbilt, while Texas coach Rodney Terry takes a time out. The coach says it’s safer than sorry about running the Commodore.
The foul appeared for Texas. This includes four people including Kadin Shedrick. However, shotmaking from Tre Johnson (17 points) and Tramon Mark (13) helped Texas maintain the cushion. However, a strange, terrible foul call against Mark doesn’t help the cause of UT.
It appears that Texas’ attacks are beginning to halt a bit. The Longhorns are taking their time to get things started. Tre Johnson is up to 14 years old after ejecting three pointers with a shot clock buzzer.
Texas survived a short storm by Vanderbilt to open the second half. Ze’rik Onyema excites the bench with a turnaround jumper in the lane, while Jayson Kent (9 rebounds) and Chendall Weaver (5 rebounds) play in big minutes off the bench.
Texas are 15-2 when leading at halftime this season. One of these losses came at Vanderbilt when the Longhorns blew a 10-point lead in 14 minutes. If they hold this lead, they will face Texas A&M tomorrow in the second round.
Texas has undoubtedly put together the most complete half of the season at a critical time. The Horn shot 48.3% compared to Vanderbilt’s 31%, overtaking the Commodore 24-14. Arthur Karma has 11 points and five rebounds for Texas, while Traemon Mark and Tre Johnson have nine each. And it’s hard to measure what Chendal Weaver means to Longhorn. Chris Mannon leads Bundy with six points.
Chendall Weaver’s energy is contagious to Texas. So does his defense. You feel it from courtside.
Texas dominates the defense (Vandy is shooting 30.4% from the floor) and in Glass (20-11 edge). How many times can you say about Texas this season? These final minutes are important to ensure that Longhorn retains its hard-earned benefits.
Texas are shooting 50% off the floor, even if they go 6 for 6 from 3-point range. It will tell you the effectiveness of paint horns. Tramon Mark has scored team high five points, but Tre Johnson has been quiet so far, earning two points in a quarter of shooting.
Texas found the groove on a 12-0 run as the horn came out during the break. Chendall Weaver has been a big boost from the bench with his defense and three rebounds. He’s a big reason why Texas is winning a rebound battle of 13-6.
A rough and rough start. The teams combined to film 11-2 from the floor, with Texas already having four fouls. But there are no two people yet. The rebound was a big story of Vanderbilt’s victory earlier this year. So far, it’s a 5-4 bandy on the board.
Texas begins guarding along with Jordan Pope, Tre Johnson and Tramon Mark forward Arthur Karma and Post Kadin Shedrick. This lineup is familiar to longhorn fans. Johnson, a freshman in the SEC and a leading scorer in the conference, is the focus of Longhorn’s offense.
Vanderbilt will launch guards Jason Edwards, Chris Mannon and Aji Hogard, as well as forwards Tyler Nickel and Devin McGlockton. Edwards, a 6-foot-1 junior averaged 16.9 points in the game, is key to the Commodore offense.
In the second game, the third game of the year, Texas will make all players available. For Vanderbilt, Guard Ax Hemenway is out and Guard Grant Huffman is decided at game time. His absence would be a blow to Vanderbilt’s rotation as Huffman averaged 11 points in the last three games.
Round One win in South Carolina in Arkansas has lasted a bit longer, so the game between the Longhorns and Vanderbilt is leaning towards 2:47pm
