TEXAS — Donald Trump was the target of a “possible assassination attempt” at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to the FBI.
The news comes just nine weeks after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. The former president said he was safe and in good health.
Following news of the assassination attempt, Texas lawmakers spoke to X about their reaction to the incident.
“Thankfully, President @realDonaldTrump is safe,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said, “I’m grateful that @realDonaldTrump is safe thanks to the swift response of law enforcement. The violence must stop and this individual must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
“Political violence has no place in a democracy,” said Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Dallas Democrat.
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) thanked police and said he was “relieved to hear President Trump is safe following reports of an active shooter at Mar-a-Lago.”
Rep. Colin Allred (D-Dallas) stressed that politics should be free from violence, adding, “I am relieved that former President Trump was not harmed, and it appears the Secret Service acted swiftly to keep everyone safe.”
