Texas men and women compete in the NCAA tournament’s madness in March
The Texas men and women have qualified for the NCAA Basketball Tournament. American nationals are here to chat about it.
Texas women’s basketball guard Shayhall may have four more games left in her college career, but Austin has no one there. Monday’s 65-48 victory in Illinois was her final match at Moody Center as the top-seeded Longhorns advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Hall was preparing to sink in seconds of the game, so the gravity of that moment hadn’t sinked for her. But that was for director Vic Schafer, who praised her journey and shines with pride and illuminated her journey since her days as a walk-on.
“No matter what ability, she’s a winner,” Schafer said. “Attitude, work ethic, every day, bad days, don’t frown, just everything. When you’re a coach, you’ll come every day and miss such kids.”
Despite her being the program’s greatest player ever, it’s difficult to properly quantify Hall’s impact on Texas. She is a kind of culture setter who holds the locker room together from the court and performs her role perfectly against it, even though it means sacrificeing personal statistics. Against Illinois, Hall was team high +19 with plus/minus, despite only recording six points, three rebounds, one steel and one assist.
She never stood out as a star, but Hall has done everything properly since stepping onto campus. That’s what high quality UT forward Aaliyah Moore is grateful even from the eybl era when Moore rocked high school braids and holes rocked the sides.
“You can even say that she’s one of the reasons, that’s just a small part of the reason I want to come here,” Moore said. “I wanted to play with people like Shay, but I’m really proud to see her grow.”
How will Texas basketball replace Shayhall?
So, how will Texas replace Hall when the season ends and her university eligibility evaporate?
If you are Schafer, you will do your best to make sure she doesn’t leave in the first place.
“I’m trying to hire her,” Schafer said. “The staff need that, but that might be the best recruiting job I could ever do if I got her. I know you’re always trying to hire someone smarter than me.”
Hall laughs and appreciates the offer, but he doesn’t really think much about jumping into the possibility of coaching basketball. She lived in Austin for the rest of her life and spoke about leaving her comfort zone after graduation to promote personal growth.
What’s more, she’s confident in the next wave of longhorns that will lead her team into the future. Hall specifically mentioned freshman guard Jordan Lee. Jordan Lee is another player whose contributions are lacking in tangible but essential to Texas make-up.
“She comes every day, works hard, has a smile on her face, bringing a good vibe.
The team remains in the hall and can be maximized by leading Texas to the national championship. However, even if her senior leaves after graduation, she doesn’t care about eventually returning to Austin.
who knows? She will likely take Schafer to his offer.
“I’ll probably come back when the time comes,” she said.
