AUSTIN, Texas — In this week’s “Four Downs,” the Longhorns will The arrogant players he plays with, Silas Bolden’s “culture play,” Austin’s notable weekend, and more.
First Down: There’s a fine line between “Swagger” and cockiness.
With a 6-0 record after defeating Oklahoma 34-3, Texas football has earned the right to hold their breath high and have some confidence in how they’re playing.
No, the Longhorns aren’t the only undefeated team left in college football. There are four other undefeated teams in the top 10 alone.
But an average difference of 36.8 points, including two wins in the top 20, is reason enough to feel good about how the team is playing.
After the win against the Sooners, Steve Sarkisian said he showed confidence, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
“I’m assuming our defense is kind of really exaggerating the way they’re playing and the real confidence in them,” Sarkisian said.
That swagger reached its peak shortly after the Red River Shootout, when sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. took to the midfield logo position wearing a Baker Mayfield jersey given to him by a fan. I arrived. Senior defensive end Valin Soler followed immediately with a goal. His jersey had a Longhorns flag on it.
To all you college football purists who were offended by Hill Jr. and Soler’s actions after the game, buck up.
