By Monday, the storm is expected to become a Category 5 hurricane and make landfall in Florida. The team will head to Alabama and await further instructions.
LONGVIEW, Texas — Six members of the Longview Fire Department’s water rescue team are being deployed to Alabama in preparation for Hurricane Milton’s landfall.
Fire officials said team members were dispatched by the Texas Task Force on Monday as Milton strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico. By Monday, the storm is expected to become a Category 5 hurricane and make landfall in Florida.
The team will head to Alabama and await further instructions. Two other members of the Longview Fire Department are on standby for the emergency medical response unit.
One team member is still active, helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Helen, which affected parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.
The Longview Fire Department said, “Please keep in mind not only the residents of the affected area, but also our members, and pray for a safe deployment.”
