The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has received federal approval to automatically provide replacement food benefits to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients in 18 counties affected by Hurricane Beryl, Gov. Greg Abbott announced in a July 15 news release.
An earlier news release on July 11 said SNAP recipients would need to apply for food replacement benefits. However, a July 15 release said SNAP recipients do not need to take any action to receive replacement benefits.

Beneficiaries in affected counties will automatically receive a percentage of their July benefits on their Lone Star cards by July 16, according to a news release.
“While affected communities continue to experience flooding and power outages, SNAP benefits will automatically cover food lost or destroyed by Hurricane Beryl,” Governor Abbott said in a statement.
