The Georgia Bulldogs are the 2024 SEC Champions. Georgia defeated the Texas Longhorns 22-19 in overtime for the first time in SEC Championship history.
UGA accomplished that without a starting quarterback. Carson Beck was sacked on a Hail Mary attempt near the end of the first half and left the game. Backup quarterback Gunner Stockton helped Georgia overcome a 6-3 halftime deficit and did enough for Georgia to defeat a very talented Texas team.
Georgia forced Texas into countless mistakes. The Bulldogs forced three turnovers and recorded six sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Georgia’s defense shut down Texas’ running game and did not allow the Longhorns to score any red zone touchdowns.

Coach Kirby Smart called an audacious fake punt on the 50 team’s own territory, helping UGA drain the second half with a field goal.
Georgia cornerback Daylen Everett, the SEC Championship MVP, intercepted Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers twice. The Dawgs won the battle in the trenches en route to Georgia’s third SEC championship of the Smart era.
What did Georgia football fans and media say on social media after UGA won the SEC Championship Game?
“The Dawgs did it,” former Georgia quarterback JT Daniels said via social media.
“SEC Champion Baby!!” said former Georgia running back Herschel Walker.
“It’s hard to beat the Georgia Bulldogs. They get everyone’s best shot and just win. Congratulations,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said.
“It’s hard to beat a great team twice. … But it seems even harder to beat the worst team in Georgia in seven years once,” said one UGA fan on social media.
