Austin, Texas – The economic partnership between Williamson County and South Korea continues to be strengthened.
Last week, a delegation of elected officials and economic development experts from Williamson County not only discussed business opportunities for the South Korea-based businesses, but also traveled to Korea to meet with the US embassy in Seoul.
The delegation met with 27 companies and presented to 60 different companies that are interested in doing business in Texas. The group also participated in Semicon Korea, a conference for the semiconductor industry focusing on the latest semiconductor advancements.
While there, Williamson County District Fourth Commissioner Las Boles was invited to Yongin, the “sister city” of Williamson County, where he was given a Williamson County Boulevard sign. The city, located in the northeastern part of the country’s CR 404 near the Samsung plant on Taylor’s “Yonggin Boulevard” in November 2024, named the street “Williamson County Boulevard.”
Yonggin City Mayor San Il Lee presented Taylor Mayor Dwayne Ariola and Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell with his ID and plaque as honorary citizens of Yonggin City. Although Gravell did not take part in the South Korea trip, county officials said they received their ID and plaque when the delegation returned to the US
“Williamson County is the most desirable place in Texas for businesses based in Korea to find,” Boles said. “These economic development trips are essential to bringing up the profile of Williamson County at the international level. The presence of sophisticated manufacturing and associated industries at the border is important for national security.”
“For me, nothing is bigger than being an American, but the second greatest gift is to become an honorary citizen of Korea,” Judge Gravell said. “I love Koreans. I love their work ethic and respect for America. I am extremely honored to be an honorary Yonggin citizen.”
“Investments in Seoul’s offices have paid multiple dividends. Dave Porter, executive director of Wilco EDP, said:
The trip was organized by the Williamson County Economic Development Partnership, and also includes Williamson County, Taylor, Georgetown and Round Rock Chamber.
