TThree families received even more special gifts this Christmas.
Four babies were delivered Wednesday at South Texas Health System’s maternity center, but officials noted fewer babies are born on the holiday than on any other day of the year.
“Doctors rarely schedule C-sections on holidays or weekends, and because about one in three American babies is born by C-section, the number of babies born on December 25th in a year is That’s 30-40% less than on the most popular days,” STHS officials said in a news release.
This statistic, coupled with the fact that their due date was January 6, made the Mercado twins’ special arrival.
Pia Fernanda, who weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19 inches long, was delivered by C-section at STHS McAllen at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Little brother Noel arrived a minute later, weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 17.5 inches long.
It was assumed that the twins would be born on January 6th, Three Kings’ Day, a Christian holiday celebrated in many Hispanic and Latin American cultures, but their mother believed that the twins would be born on a different holy day. The statement said he believed he would be born.
“We had a hunch that they would arrive on Christmas Day, but we don’t know why,” Tania Perez, the twins’ mother, said in a release. The boy’s name is Noel. After researching the name, I found out that it either means Christmas or is born on Christmas Day. Therefore, it is a very big coincidence that they were born on this day. It’s our Christmas present! ”
STHS McAllen’s third Christmas baby was born less than 30 minutes after Pia Fernanda and Noel arrived.
Luz Gomez’s water broke during her family’s Noche Buena celebration and she was rushed to the hospital overnight. Daniella was born at 8:26am. Daniela came into the world weighing 5 pounds, 8 ounces, and 19 inches long.
Finally, Kalesi was born at STHS Edinburg’s maternity center at 11:19 a.m., weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.
Officials said in a statement that Caressi’s parents, Yukari and Edgar Mendes, called her arrival a “little Christmas miracle.”
“STHS staff members are thrilled to be able to spend Christmas Day with the four Christmas Babies and their families,” the release states. “Staff at STHS McAllen and STHS Edinburg made the day even more special with special holiday-themed gifts, including baby’s first Christmas onesie and a massage gift certificate for each mom donated by the spa. ” La Posada. ”
