Governor Greg Abbott today directed the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate the state’s emergency response resources ahead of severe weather expected to impact the state this weekend.
“Texas is prepared to respond to the severe weather expected to hit West and East Texas today and in the coming days,” Governor Abbott said. “As we monitor the expected development of the storm, state and local emergency responders are on standby to assist Texas communities throughout the storm. To ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones, we urge you to remain vigilant, monitor weather conditions regularly, keep an emergency supply kit nearby, and follow the instructions of local authorities and first responders. I ask.”
Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact the western part of the state starting today, according to the National Weather Service. The storm system is expected to move east, impacting north and central Texas over the weekend, and reach east and southeast Texas by early next week. Risks include heavy rain and flash flooding, large hail, wind damage, and the possibility of tornadoes.
