The Texas Longhorns will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, looking to improve to their second straight 9-1 season.
This is due to a lot of talent being recruited through Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, who is committed and has many young players already on the team and waiting to be acquired, who will continue to grow in the coming years. We’ve built a team that’s ready to succeed for years to come. play time.
Sarkisian on Thursday named several young freshman players who have impressed him in practice thus far.
He started by shouting out both freshman safeties Xavier Filsime and Jordan Johnson-LeBell.
“I think those two guys did a great job,” Sarkisian said. “Xavier is definitely one of the most impressive players on the scout team.”
Xavier Filsaime was originally a 247Sports four-star recruit out of McKinney, Texas. He was a two-time all-district champion and an All-American in high school.
Johnson LeBell was a three-star player from Bradenton, Florida. 247 scouting director Andrew Ivins said Johnson-Rubell is a “versatile prospect with great vision” and “considering his size, he’s quite effective as an open-field tackler.” said.
Another defensive back Coach Sarkisian mentioned was freshman Wardell Mack. Mack, a native of Marrero, Los Angeles, was originally a four-star player with the Florida Gators before transferring to Texas.
In fact, Mack threw an interception in the closing minutes of a game against Colorado State earlier in the season, resulting in a shutout.
The freshman is considered a “major DB prospect with the potential to be a multi-year starter,” according to 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks.
Finally, Sarkisian mentioned wide receiver Parker Livingston from Lovejoy, Texas.
“He’s a player who has really grown and continues to develop,” Sarkisian said.
Livingston was a two-time all-district honoree and a three-time varsity starter. Coming out of high school, he amassed over 900 receiving yards in all three seasons of varsity play at Lovejoy College and was named a three-star by 247Sports.
“But all of these players are working hard and getting better, so that’s encouraging,” Sarkisian said.
And while all of these players probably won’t get significant playing time for the rest of the year, it’s a luxury for coaches to have confidence in their roster for years to come. And with 23 seniors currently on the roster, it could be as early as next season before we see some of those players become starters.
