South Texas Health Systems Clinic welcomes general surgeons and RGV native DRs. Krystha Cantu joins the doctors team
Dr. Krystha Cantu is specially trained to understand all the basic areas of surgery through extensive training and vast knowledge of intrabody complexity.
Specialist knowledge of the entire surgical process allows general surgeons to treat a variety of conditions through a variety of procedures. From initial evaluation of a patient to required procedures and postoperative management, typical surgeons are trained to diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of medical conditions.
From the gastrointestinal tract to the skin and soft tissues, and traumatic injuries, general surgeons can deal with conditions affecting almost every area of the body through a vast knowledge of various diseases and conditions and an understanding of all the basic areas of surgery.
A typical surgeon can selectively bring results in emergencies with timely, careful and skilled surgery. Due to extensive training in nine key elements of common surgery, these physicians play an integral role in the healthcare system and patient medical journeys.
With strict training in general conditions such as diverticulitis, appendicitis and gallbladder disease, South Texas Health System is proud to welcome Dr. Krystha Cantu, a general surgeon who joined the team of doctors and experts at STHS Clinic.
Unlike doctors who focus on specific systems or parts of the body, Dr. Kantu’s extensive training gives them the ability to care for the whole body and perform complex and accurate surgeries to repair damaged or damaged areas of the body.
“Ordinary surgery can be challenging because it’s a very broad expertise and is tasked with understanding how the whole human body works,” says Dr. Cantu. “Knowing the complexity of the body allows us to deal with a variety of illnesses and conditions, from painful hernia to various illnesses, wounds and overall trauma.”
Dr. Cantu, a native of the Rio Grande Valley, graduated from the Oratorie Academy in Farr, and then majored in pre-medical studies held at Rice University in Houston. After completing her undergraduate course, she attended the Texas A&M School of Medicine as a complete merit scholar before completing a surgical internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Following that apprentice, Dr. Cantu completed a surgical residency at Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas.
Although she can treat a variety of conditions, Dr. Cantu specializes in gastrointestinal conditions common in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Conditions such as diverticulitis, cholecystitis and other gastrointestinal diseases can be painful and can reduce the quality of life of a person,” says Dr. Kantu. “Though these conditions can be managed through hospital environment, medication and dietary changes, the condition of the gastrointestinal organs is severe and may require surgery, especially if not treated early.”
Approximately 40% of the Rio Grande Valley population, classified as medically underserved regions, treats and manages a variety of conditions, making it difficult to access, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
Her lack of access to care and desire to make a difference was that Dr. Kantu said she brought her back to the valley to serve the community.
“Last year as a doctor at Locum Tenens, I had the opportunity to practice in the valley,” she says. “In the meantime I noticed an increase in the prevalence of several conditions, such as increased gallbladder disease and diverticulitis, which is surprising, I knew I could go home more permanently and serve the community.
Dr. Kantu is excited to serve in the community that helped shape and shape her into who she is today, and she feels pride in giving back to the community that helps her raise her.
“It’s a perfect moment for me to go home and serve. I’m so happy to provide services that can bring positive change to the Rio Grande Valley. I can help patients and help the community by supporting them and staying healthy.” “Sometimes, patients are seeking care because of language barriers, but being fully bilingual allows me to communicate effectively, eliminate those barriers and help more people.”
Dr. Cantu will practice at the acute care, trauma surgery and general surgery clinic at the STHS Clinic, next to STHS McAllen. Address 801 South 5th Avenue, Suite 209, McAllen. To learn more or to book, call (956) 631-0393 or visit doctors.sthsclinics.com.
